Welcome

Initial consultation

Inspiration and ideas

When you meet Joanna for your initial consultation, you will sit down and have an informal chat about your ideas. It is recommended that you bring any pictures and colour samples with you. If you have a specific theme for your dress or your wedding, bring along pictures of that too. It could be your venue or simply a photograph that you love. It is important for Joanna to understand as much as possible about what you want and she will guide you through what can and can’t be done. She will also show you fabric samples from her extensive list of suppliers and you will also be able to see samples of gowns she has made previously.

Secondary consultation

Design phase

Once you are happy that you both have an understanding of the basics of the dress, Joanna will then continue her research for you and will come up with a selection of designs to discuss at your next consultation. You may find you love one the designs first off, but it is also likely that you and Joanna may need to make some minor adjustments to the design. At this stage you may be happy to finalise the design and confirm that you want to go ahead. If so Joanna will require a non-refundable deposit from you to secure your dress and she will commence with the purchasing of your fabrics.

First fitting

Toile

After this point it may be a few months before your next consultation. By then Joanna will have drafted the unique pattern for your dress and begun to create a mock-up, known as a toile, in calico. This will be a very basic version of your dress which will be used to assess the fit and shape of the garment. It is recommended that you have the actual underwear you will wear with you as this can drastically alter the feel and fit. You may need a second or third consultation to fit the toile properly.

Further fittings

Actual Dress

Joanna will then commence to make your actual gown in your chosen fabric. Depending on the complexity of the design, further fittings may be required during this stage. You may not need another fitting until the dress is almost complete. At this point you will need to have your actual shoes to wear so the length can be adjusted accurately.

Final Fitting

Actual Dress

At you final fitting your dress will be finished, along with any accessories and you can try on the full ensemble. Before you take your dress away, Joanna will require full payment from you. After that you will have your beautiful gown for your special day.
